Plan B, C and D

the first things i've learnt in 2014:

always have a plan b! maybe also c and d.
if you are not a skier you are definitely a second-rate winter tourist.
the weather in the mountains gives a shit about you.

my best buddy and i spent the first days of the new year in tyrol. as my boyfriend is still not allowed to ski due to his injury we had a ski-free program planned that still included visiting non-ski-free areas. you might know that i'm kind of obsessed with drinking coffee and finding new coffee places. so when i heard about austria's highest café, café 3.440, i couldn't resist going there. café 3.440 is located, duh, 3.440 m above sea level. it turned out the café itself isn't very special... i mean the cakes are awesome and the prices ok but apart from that this place could be anywhere. from this point of view the cappuccino i ordered there was probably the most expensive coffee i've had so far. xD if, however, you look on the bright sight of things, i went up the mountain, enjoyed the most incredible view over the alps AND got to drink coffee. this experience has shown me that i need to spend more time in the mountains. in summer, as well as in winter. i didn't know how breathtakingly beautiful a glacier with its light turquoise perpetual ice could be. paying 35 euros to go up the hintere brunnenkogel was so worth it.

photo credit goes, by the way, to my boy.

Remember the Days in Tyrol

the best about arriving in tyrol at night: the view in the morning seems even more spectacular!

AREA 47: it is promoted as the ultimate outdoor playground and it sure is! in august this year we went to tyrol to find it out ourselves. area 47 is not only the coolest and most adventurous fun and action park in austria, it's also the most beautiful playground for adults. it is situated in the ötztal, a 65 km long alpine valley with amazing mountainsides, waterfalls and rivers.

DAY 1

sleeping across from a barn. a true austrian holiday destination.
flowers on the balcony.
austrian breakfast.
the night before: family spirit! xD
excitement!
before going to bed: 'reading' a car magazine.
that's what i do every night. i guess she doesn't believe me...
in the morning we couldn't resist stopping here to get some fresh mountain air.
how old am i again?
flowers everywhere!
there's a... cow!
wild baby strawberry. *-*
filming for our action gopro video.
the underwater camera came in handy. xD
gangnam styyyyyyle! :D
going to the area 47.
the water park. smaller than imagined but still quite nice.
water slides! they could build more of these.
you know you're still a chicken when you refuse to try the blob and the water ramp...
after checking out the water park we finally had the chance to try rafting! beginners tour at the imster schlucht. next year: we'll meet the ötztaler ache. i can't wait!!!

DAY 2

our second day also started with perfect summer weather.
i miss the mountains... :(
who would not love this?!
the area 47 team!
the climbing area. :D i'm not afraid of heights but it looks like a challenge...
left picture: the 'shuttle bus' from the parking lot to the water park. xD hellooo, countryside!
that's where you get dressed for rafting, canyoning and the like. unfortunately, we barely took pictures during rafting and don't have photos of our canyoning experience. but: we have lots and lots of video material (that needs to be edited someday)!
dinner at the oilers 69.
an american biker bar.
one of the best vegetarian burgers i've had so far.
the authentic look of the restaurant.
old american cars.
don't hang up.
we saw a lot of those huge trucks in the states in september/october. they drive frighteningly fast...
