New York City Photo Diary - Part 1

here it is: the first picture post of my ny visit. we arrived at jfk in the afternoon und headed to our factory loft in brooklyn first. after dropping off the bags we took the manhattan bound l-train and went straight to times square. the big apple's heart is pulsating there 24/7.

the naked cowboy.
mr. officer and me.
i should have watched the musical "annie"! :D
our artsy loft where details counted most!
now that's a wall decoration i like! below you'll find the whole quote. and: exit signs everywhere! :D in case you forget the way out of your own apartment. xD

<by the time the child can draw more than scribble, by the age of four or five years, an already well-formed body of conceptual knowledge formulated in language dominates his memory and controls his graphic work. drawings are graphic accounts of essentially verbal processes. as an essentially verbal education gains control, the child abandons his graphic efforts and relies almost entirely on words. karl bühler.>

korean in a nyc apartment? yeah! i also want korean signs in my room! :D
our hood.
brooklyn bridge on a sunny autumn day.
my perfect travel companion.

one of the most interesting buildings in whole manhattan: the grand central terminal. if you have time be sure to take a tour with a personal guide through the station. there's one tour taking place every wednesday at 12.30 (offered by the municipal arts society).
my favorite: the chrysler building with its art déco architecture.
grand central terminal. main concourse. picture taken by m. k.

Are you hungry for a taste of life?

sorry I haven't updated my blog in a while but it's quite hard for me to juggle university, work, my free time and my blog. i have a gazillion pictures to share (especially from my nyc and new england voyage) however no time to edit the photos. anyway, i'm already planning my next trip, berlin that is. i was invited to the annual conference of the association for korean studies in german speaking countries. last year the conference was held in bochum, germany. this year it will take place at the freie universität berlin. my boyfriend is also coming along, as well as our dear friends s and m. i've already been to berlin twice but at the age of 18 you have completely different things in mind when you travel the world. back then i didn't even buy a travel guide. these days i cannot imagine going to a city or country without having a guidebook in my bag. my boyfriend will buy the lonely planet for berlin. that's why i went for the lv guide. there are numerous things i like about lv travel guides: the size, the paperback case that protects the book and looks great in the bookshelf, the inside information given by well-known artists (e. g. for the nyc edition: my ny by bette middler) and the selection of middle to high-class restaurants, cafés, bars and hotels (i'm not a backpack tourist anymore and probably never was...). while the first one and a half days will be devoted to korean studies panels the other one and a half days of the weekend will be spent with sightseeing. i've already made a reservation for the reichstag building and for the sphere restaurant at the top of the television tower where according to the new york times travel article and to the lv guide a "panoramic view of the city" is guaranteed. if you can recommend any nice cafés, night clubs or other must-sees please let me know! :)
